A two coiled tattoo machine
The tattoo machine is a hand-held device which used to create tattoos.
Today's tattoo machines work by using electromagnetic coils to jolt an armature bar up and down, the needle is connected to the armature bar which in turn moves up and down allowing the tattoo artist to push ink into the skin.
Tattoo artists call their tattooing device a "machine", or even an "iron". "Tattoo gun" is often used but not by many professional artists.
Prices on these tattoo machines vary greatly it is mostly dependent on the way in which the machine was made and by who. Mass production machines coming out of China these days are a lot better then they were in the past, and with a few minor adjustments, one can tune them to work just as well as an expensive handmade machine.
